1970: Football World Championships |
1980: 50th Anniversary of the National Hospital |
1988: Centenary of Urania Science Museum |
2000: Opening of Singapore Post Centre - History of the Central Post Office |
The only way to end is with some post offices. The official launch in 2000 of the new Singapore Post Centre gave them the opportunity to celebrate their buildings from the
first in the 1800s when Singapore welcomed its first mail steamer but as volumes of post increased a new building was required and the General Post Office was built in 1897.
The GPO moved to the new Fullerton Buildings in 1928, which was also when the first airmail flight was dispatched from Singapore. The mail sorting operation was eventually moved in 1998 to a new facility and then the shiny new SingPost Centre opened in 2000
Sunday Stamp theme - Public Buildings - visit See It On A Postcard

Post offices, along with libraries, are public buildings I hadn't thought of when considering this theme. Thanks for sharing all these stamps.
Probably the new building for the Urania Science Museum is far better and well-equiped. But the old one seems more charming, doesn't it?
A lot of diferent kinds of public buildings in this post. At least, I can say I've been inside the first one!
The new science museum is missing the planetarium? Science centres are a sore point where I live due to the meddling of our premier who closed it. Nobody wanted that. That tower is indeed impressive - I wonder what its purpose is. And I never thought about where those Nobel banquets were held (I think I assumed the palace?). I do like the evolution of the Singapore post office buildings and the date stamp of the year each was built.
I like the Singapore post office history. What an unusual building that newest is.
I like the hospital stamp. And the Stockholm City Hall IS impressive!
Yes old building are more beautiful. Lucky you to get a visit inside, it did sound fascinating.
My thoughts precisely on the missing planetarium, I don't think the modern buildings cinema screen compensates.
